more about us
At Friends Community Church, we value loving
God, loving others and loving the world. Our name comes from John 15:13-15: “The greatest
love a person can show is to die for his friends. You are my friends if you do
what I command you. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not
know what his master is doing. But I call you friends, because I have made
known to you everything I heard from my Father.” That’s our mantra. We believe in being not just believers in, but
friends of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
At Friends, we believe that all people matter
to God, and that a person’s value should precede his or her performance (check
out Romans 5:8: “God demonstrates His love in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us”). That means that we put people before projects, and
passion before presentation. At Friends, we believe in a passionate Christian
life — passionate for people, passionate for Christ, passionate for the world.
Our core values include:
• Effective Bible teaching.
• All people matter to God.
• Church must be culturally relevant and
racially diverse.
• Christ's followers must manifest
authenticity and desire continuous growth.
• Loving relationships should permeate church
life.
• A unified community of servants stewarding
spiritual gifts.
• Life change happens best in small groups.
• Excellence honors God and inspires people.
• Churches should be led by those with
leadership gifts.
• Full devotion to Christ and His cause is
normal.
• Equipping the individual to maximize
potential to walk in God's destiny for their lives.
We are impacted by His purpose, purposing to
impact those around us! And we’ve been doing it for nearly 18 years.
Friends Church started in 1990 as a group of 40 people who met in
the Ft. Wainwright bowling alley conference room. Today, the church has grown
larger in terms of membership and yet a premium is still placed on the strong
ties created in the intimate small group setting. Hundreds of us gather every
Sunday (9 and 11 am) in a new facility on 30th Avenue. But don’t bust out the
bowties! Friends is a casual church, intended to make every attendee feel
comfortable. Combine the relaxed dress code with a mocha latte from the
in-house Common Grounds Coffee Shop and some contemporary Christian music from
our praise and worship band, and Friends is a place to worship with just that:
friends.
